Teen charged with attacking girlfriend over the weekend
A teenager was arrested on charges he attacked his girlfriend with a knife and broke her nose during a weekend domestic dispute in Butler.
District Judge Sue Haggerty on Sunday arraigned Keith P. Reges, 19, who has no known address, on felony and misdemeanor assault charges.
Butler police spoke to the victim, Jessica Shaffer, about 10:40 p.m. Saturday after being called to her Greenview Gardens apartment. Officers said her nose was swollen, apparently from being broken, and she had cuts to her chest and arm.
Shaffer told police that Reges was at her apartment earlier and started an argument, accusing her of being “involved with another person,” according to court documents.
He is accused of pushing the woman down several times. During the alleged assault, Shaffer said she saw the defendant with a silver folding knife in his hand and she feared he was going to stab her with it.
He grabbed her by the front of her shirt and scratched her chest, documents said, and struck the back of her head with the butt end of the knife.
A female friend who was with Shaffer told Reges to stop, police said, but he allegedly struck the friend in the face, too.
The defendant then resumed his attack on Shaffer, documents said, punching her in the nose with the same fist in which he held the knife.
Reges fled the apartment but he was later arrested. Haggerty arraigned him on charges of aggravated assault and simple assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
