MOM’S MOMENT — Catherine Shaffer of Merritt Drive gets a kiss from her son, Glenn, 16, who wrote the winning entry for the “What My Mother Means to Me” essay contest sponsored by the Butler Mall 30 years ago. Shaffer was crowned Mother of the Year on May 10, 1986. She received a microwave oven, a dozen long-stemmed roses and a plaque.
