Power outage affects 1,300

CENTER TWP — More than 1,300 West Penn Power customers in 10 Butler County municipalities were without power Friday afternoon, a company spokesman said, after a tree fell on a power line.

Company spokesman Todd Meyers said the outages, which hit Center Township hardest and knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers there, have been a problem since Friday morning, when crews were notified of an unknown problem on the company’s “Oneida circuit,” which serves residents in the township and surrounding municipalities. Power was briefly restored between noon and 1 p.m., but was knocked out again around 1:40 p.m.

Meyers said a crew had removed the downed tree from the power line, and the Meyers said he expected power to all customers to be restored shortly.
