Bake 'N' Bling provides gift ideas
CRANBERRY TWP — Saturday’s Bake ‘N’ Bling provided people with Mother’s Day gift ideas.
The event held in Plains Church’s Fellowship Hall had 15 people learn how to make dessert pierogies and explore fashion and crafts from around the world.
“The inspiration was the Mother’s Day celebration and bringing the women together,” said organizer Melanie Sturrock. “We don’t have a lot of time during church and after church to get together and we just enjoy each other so much.”
A friend of Sturrock’s came in to teach participants how to make the dessert pierogies during a one-hour demonstration.
While the pierogies were made from scratch, the dessert fillings were already made. Recipes for the fillings were given to participants.
Fashion from the event, including scarves, purses, jewelry and outdoor crafts courtesy of Zelienople-based Artisan Marketplace, were displayed and showcased in a fashion show.
Proceeds from the Marketplace go to Presbyterian Women missions.
“This was kind of a test, but we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from it,” Sturrock said. “The women were very excited and wanted to go back home and try the pierogies on their families.”
Sturrock said proceeds from the event went toward the church’s inreach/outreach committee.
She said she hopes to have more younger women come to the event if it is held again.
“It’s more of a fellowship time and we’re interested in missions,” Sturrock said.
