MTG offers 'Spelling Bee'The Musical Theatre Guild presents “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” opening Friday at the William A. Lehnerd Production Center in the rear of Memorial Park.Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through April 30 and at 3 p.m. May 1.Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 724-287-8243.

Players present 'Miracle Worker'The Pioneer Players of Butler County Community College will stage “The Miracle Worker” opening April 28.The William Gibson play will go on at 7:30 p.m. April 28, 29 and 30 at the Succop Theater on campus.The play about Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan was the basis for the 1962 film that won Academy Awards for Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress roles.The story chronicles the life of a child left deaf and blind by illness in the late 1800s and her battle with her teacher and herself to overcome her disabilities and become a champion for the blind and deaf.The Pioneer Players are the on-campus theater club.Reserved seats are $10 for adults and $8 for students. SV combines arts for eventFor the first time in school history, the Seneca Valley Wind Ensemble, Art Department and the Seneca Valley Academy of Choice Performing Arts Department are collaborating to present a work of art at 7:30 p.m. May 5 in the intermediate high school auditorium.The event will include poetry, dance, art and music based on a transcription of Carl Orff's “Carmina Burana.”Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

BLT closes with SimonThe Butler Little Theatre will offer “Come Blow Your Horn” by Neil Simon as its final play of the 75th anniversary season.The comedy will go on May 6 to 14 at the theater at One Howard St. Curtain is at 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.Tickets are $12 and will be available for members Tuesday and Wednesday, and to the public starting April 28.Call 724-287-6781 from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Symphony sets new seasonThe Butler County Symphony Orchestra announced its 68th season, which begins Oct. 1, along with the extension of music director and conductor Matthew Kraemer's contract for an additional two years.The season will feature:“Magnificent Russians” with pianist Sean Chen, Oct. 1“Veterans Day Salute,” Nov. 12“Magic of Christmas,” Dec. 10“Great Romantics” with violinist Tanya Satteson, Feb. 4, 2017“Symphony Idol” with Matt Giraud, LaKisha Jones and Haley Scarnato from Fox's “American Idol,” March 4, 2017“American Masters” with the 2017 concerto competition winner, April 8, 2017.
