Charges pending toxicology report

FRANKLIN TWP — State police suspect a 51-year-old man was high on drugs Thursday afternoon when he drove his car into a barn on Country Club Road.

Timothy Lee Beachem of West Sunbury had to be pulled from the wreckage shortly after 2:40 p.m. Authorities said he was taken to Butler Memorial for treatment of injuries and for a blood draw.

He admitted being “under the influence of multiple substance,” police said.

An accident report was unavailable this morning and it was not immediately known what direction Beachem was traveling when he lost control of the car.

He swerved off the road and crashed into the barn at the home where Thomas and Melanie Cumberland live. The vehicle plowed through a support beam, Thomas Cumberland said.

Cumberland, too, suspected Beachem was impaired while helping to get him out of the car.

The severity of Beachem’s injuries were not available.

“(The driver) said he was banged up a bit,” said Assistant Fire Chief Ken Wilson of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Company.

Police noted that charges of driving under the influence of drugs are pending toxicology results.

The extent of the damage to the barn and its contents was not known. The barn houses all-terrain vehicles, trailers and boats.

Cumberland said he hoped his homeowners’ insurance would cover the cost of the damages.

Electrical service to nearby homes was also reportedly knocked out for about an hour when the vehicle reportedly hit a utility pole.
