BUTLER TWP — A car that knocked down a utility pole on Old Plank Road at 3 p.m. ended up over an embankment at a sharp bend near 8 Old Plank Road near the Butler-Butler Township line.

The accident knocked out traffic lights at the south end of the Picklegate Bridge,

The driver reportedly ran from the scene with police searching for him.

The pole came down across the road, leading to the road being shut down in the area of Cloverdale Road.

The West Penn Power Co. on its website is reporting at least 500 customers without electricity.
