Butler Police10:01 p.m. Monday — Bruce H. Cornetti Jr., 31, was arrested after he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun outside his home on Cross Street. No one was hurt.Police said Cornetti and the victim, the mother of an upstairs tenant, apparently got into a disagreement during which he came out with a 9 mm pistol, according to court documents. The woman recounted that the suspect racked the slide of the gun and told her, “If you step on my property I will shoot you.”Cornetti later denied threatening to shoot the alleged victim but, a police affidavit said, “did admit saying he was going to defend his property.”Police inspected the handgun, owned by the suspect’s girlfriend, and found it was loaded with a 12-round magazine clip. The chamber was empty.Cornetti was arraigned on a charge of terroristic threats and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.9:28 p.m. Saturday — Cody Lee Reynolds, 30, landed in trouble with the law for allegedly smoking marijuana at his home in the 400 block of Brown Avenue.Police were called to Reynolds’ home, one of several sleeping rooms, after a neighbor complained of the smell of marijuana. The neighbor told police that he has children and did not want then exposed to drugs, court documents said.An officer followed his nose to the suspect’s door. When Reynolds opened it, the “odor of marijuana became very potent,” according to a police affidavit. He admitted smoking one bowl and handed over a small baggie of suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe.Reynolds is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Butler8:44 p.m. Sunday — David L. Beilstein, 32, of Butler allegedly led police on a 5-mile chase in Jefferson Township. Police later filed a list of criminal charges and traffic violations against him.A trooper initially spotted Beilstein speeding in a Chevrolet Cavalier that he was driving south on Fisher Road. A police report noted he was traveling more than 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.When the defendant allegedly ran a stop sign at Fisher and Hannahstown roads, the trooper activated his emergency lights and tried to pull over Beilstein. Instead, police said, he turned left onto Hannahstown Road and the chase was on.Police charged Beilstein with fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.Additionally, he was cited for driving with a suspended license-DUI related, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, reckless driving, failing to keep right, improperly passing another vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes and five stop sign violations.Court records showed Beilstein is on probation stemming from a 2011 felony theft conviction in Allegheny County. He has one other felony, in Butler County in 2005, for carrying a firearm without a permit.Sunday — Jason Lee Callahan, 42, of Venango Township was arrested on a warrant in northern Butler County stemming from a New Year’s Eve suspected drunken driving crash that turned into a physical confrontation with a trooper.Callahan, who was picked up after a traffic stop in Allegheny Township, was arraigned on felony and other charges in connection with the one-vehicle wreck about 10:25 p.m. Dec. 31 in Mercer Township.The crash happened, according to court documents, when the defendant’s pickup truck traveled off Shields Road and struck a bridge, causing the truck to roll over into a ditch. Police believed Callahan was under the influence of and attempted to arrest him.However, he resisted and a struggle ensued. Callahan allegedly grabbed the arresting trooper’s chest and pushed the officer backward. The suspect was eventually detained and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of a minor leg injury and a blood test.Toxicology results on Jan. 15 showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, or more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Sunday arraigned Callahan on a felony charge of aggravated assault, misdemeanor charges of DUI, simple assault and resisting arrest, and summary charges of disorderly conduct and harassment.Additionally, he is charged with the following traffic violations: driving with a suspended license-DUI related, careless driving, reckless driving, failing to keep right, driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, displaying his license plate on the wrong vehicle and not wearing a seat belt.Callahan was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
Butler Twp Police11:28 a.m. Saturday — Daniel B. Young, 36, of Butler was caught with suspected drug contraband following a traffic stop on Eberhart Road near Moraine Pointe Plaza. Police said they found him with a plastic baggie of suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe.Young is charged with possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
