3 men charged in drug case

Home was raided earlier this month

Butler County narcotics officers have charged three men with having an assortment of contraband stemming from this month’s take-down at a purported drug house in Butler.

One of the suspects, 44-year-old Gregory A. Gilliland, was arrested March 18 when the Butler County Drug Task Force raided the home in the 200 block of American Avenue where he lives.

Investigators said Gilliland was under investigation since earlier this year for allegedly selling heroin at the house.

The task force on Feb. 1 conducted a controlled drug buy with a police informant who bought four stamp bags of heroin from Gilliland at the home, according to court documents.

The investigation subsequently led authorities to the house with a search warrant. Officers found the resident there along with suspected customers Zachary A. Armstrong, 28, of Connoquenessing Township and James P. Worsley, 45, of Butler.

Gilliland had with him two crack pipes, three drug-cooking spoons and multiple syringes and empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, documents said.

Officers caught Armstrong in the upstairs bathroom. He was searched and found with a spoon containing suspected drug residue in a pants pocket, authorities said.

In the bathroom, officers found several empty bags of suspected heroin and a syringe.

A search of Worsley, documents said, turned up a Suboxone strip for which he did not have a prescription.

Gilliland was arrested in the raid and arraigned that night on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

On Monday, he waived his preliminary hearing on those charges. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

The task force on Thursday filed charges of possession of drug paraphernalia against Gilliland and Armstrong and a charge of possession of a controlled substance against Worsley.
