Police investigate accidental shooting of man

JEFFERSON TWP — State police continue to investigate an accidental shooting of 23-year-old man Friday night.

He was injured in a leg at a home in the 100 block of Bullcreek Road, authorities said.

The man was shot in the leg and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police. A medical helicopter flew him to a Pittsburgh trauma center following the shooting about 8:25 p.m.

Police did not identify the man and a report was not immediately completed. A patrol trooper is investigating but a criminal investigator also was called to the home.

Authorities said there were several people at the house when one of them apparently pulled a handgun from a holster. The gun went off, hitting the victim.

The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company and its ambulance arrived to tend to the man, who was reportedly shot in the thigh.

When medical crews could not find an exit wound, the decision was made to fly the man to Allegheny General Hospital, out of concern the bullet could have struck an artery.

Police said their investigation continues, and it was not know if any charges will be filed.
