Traffic signals, equipment on Route 68 to get upgrades
BUTLER TWP — Traffic signals and other road equipment along Route 68 in Butler and Butler Township will be upgraded over the next two years after the two municipalities were awarded a $1 million grant through a regional planning commission.
Township manager Ed Kirkwood said the municipalities had been approved for the grant through the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission, which serves a 10-county area around Pittsburgh.
Each municipality will be required to contribute $50,000 to the project.
No work has been scheduled, Kirkwood said, but SPC consultants will do inspections along the road and will develop a plan for the upgrades.
Kirkwood said the last time traffic control devices along Route 68 in the township were updated was “at least 15 years ago.”
