BC3 campus police get interim director
BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College board has appointed an interim director of campus police and security after the previous director’s January retirement.
Sgt. Scott Richardson with the BC3 campus police was promoted Wednesday to interim director, effective Feb. 1, after previous director Pat Massaro retired at the end of January.
Richardson has been with the BC3 campus police since 1996 and has been a full-time officer since 1997, according to Jessica Matonak, interim director of communications and marketing at BC3.
In addition, the BC3 board approved a new policy at its Wednesday meeting allowing campus police officers to have tasers.
The college anticipates buying three tasers, Matonak said.
Although the campus police’s six employees are all armed and have been since 2008, the tasers offer another option to minimize situations, according to BC3 President Nick Neupauer.
The campus has four full-time and two part-time officers.
