John C. Tack
John C. Tack, 93, of Butler passed away at 8:55 p.m. Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
He was born April 10, 1922, in Butler, to the late John Tack and Margaret (Snyder) Tack.
He was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Westminster College. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps, serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II.
He was a partner in the family owned excavation and builders' supply business and the sole owner of the Tack Lumber Co. in Butler. He was the developer of the Garden Grove plan in Butler Township. John retired from Mine Safety Appliances in March 1984, after 17 years of service.
He spent many years in local youth baseball programs and worked with Habitat for Humanity. John was an avid wood hobbyist, enjoyed his family, extended family and traveling. He was a past member of the Butler Lions Club and the Butler Elks Lodge 170.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Tack, whom he married Feb. 3, 1945; one daughter, Barbara Bicker and her husband, Russell, of Slippery Rock; three sons, John G. Tack and his wife, Elaine, of Middletown, Ohio, William B. Tack and his wife, Donna, of Hilliards and Jeffrey M. Tack of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
TACK — There will be no public visitation for John C. Tack, who died Friday, Feb. 5, 2016.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler with the Rev.
