Minto defeated by 2nd-round TKO in Russia

Butler heavyweight Brian Minto lost via technical knockout in the second round of his bout against Edmund Gerber of Germany Saturday night.

The fight took place at the Colosseum Sport Hall in Grozny, Russia.

Minto (41-11) scored with a right hand in the opening round, but Gerber countered with a left hook that sent Minto into the ropes.

Gerber, 27, had a size and reach advantage on the 41-year-old Minto and took control of the fight in the second round. Minto landed a pair of left jabs and a solid body shot, but the punches showed little effect on Gerber.

With a minute remaining in Round 2, Gerber floored Minto with a straight right hand. The Butler fighter beat the count and got to his feet, but took another right hand — this one to the side of his head — and fell face first to the canvas.

The referee stopped the fight immediately.

Minto got to his knees and was helped back to his corner. He appeared dazed, but walked around the ring under his own power moments later.

The loss was the third straight for Minto. Gerber improved to 26-2 with 17 KOs. Gerber has won his last three bouts, all by TKO.
