Kane aide gets jail time for snoopingNORRISTOWN — An aide to Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has been sentenced to three to six months in jail for illegally accessing e-mails to keep tabs on a grand jury probe of his boss.Patrick “Rocco” Reese remains free pending appeal.Reese is a former small-town police chief near Scranton, Kane’s hometown. He made nearly $100,000 a year to be her driver and security chief.The snooping occurred as Kane was being investigated for allegedly leaking grand jury evidence.Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter says the fact Reese has a law enforcement background made the crime even worse.The grand jury probe led to perjury and other charges being filed against Kane.

Flag groups to hold rallies at GettysburgGETTYSBURG — Groups on both sides of the debate plan to show up at Gettysburg National Military Park for Confederate Flag Day.The Sons of Confederate Veterans have plans to honor the Confederate battle flag that some view as divisive or racist.And Scott Hancock, a professor of history and Africana studies at Gettysburg College, says he’s gotten a permit to hold a counterdemonstration at the battlefield’s Eternal Light Peace Memorial.The Sons of Confederate Veterans, based in Columbia, Tenn., say the flag is part of American culture.Hancock says the group is guilty of “miseducation that revises, narrows and sanitizes the long history of that flag.”The event is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Casino fined for not locking storage siteERIE — A northwestern Pennsylvania casino has been fined $10,000 for not locking a room used to store table game equipment.Presque Isle Downs & Casino near Erie has consented to the penalty handed down Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.The board says the casino used a vacant room to store the equipment, and that arrangement allowed people to access the room without a key.

Sewer authority director resignsPITTSBURGH — The executive director of the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority has resigned amid billing problems and customer complaints.Mayor Bill Peduto says the authority’s board accepted Jim Good’s resignation Thursday and is beginning a nationwide search to replace him.Billing problems including incorrect charges and bills not arriving have dogged the agency, along with customer service complaints. Board Chairman Alex Thomson says the authority is working to fix those issues.The board has appointed former Allegheny Regional Asset District Director David Donahoe as Good’s interim replacement.
