Butler bank reopens after robbery
An East Diamond Street bank that was robbed this morning reopened for business shortly before 2 p.m. today.
Employees at NexTier Bank declined to comment on the robbery, which has police searching for a black male believed to be in his 30s who was wearing a black Nike hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.
The bank employees directed inquires about the robbery, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m., to the company's corporate office, but confirmed that the East Diamond Street branch reopened at about 1:40 p.m.
Butler City Police did not immediately return messages left seeking information on the status of the investigation.
State police in Butler sent the forensic services unit to the scene, according to Sgt. Rachel Graham, but she could not comment further on if any evidence was found. Other than the forensic team and having some troopers in the area keep watch, the state police are not participating in the city's investigation, Graham said.
The robbery also caused the lockdown of Emily Brittain Elementary School, Center Avenue Community School and Butler Middle School as a safety precaution about 10:15 a.m., said Superintendent Dale Lumley.
Parents were informed through the district's AlertNow system, he said.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after 11 a.m.
