Deputy Sheriff Tiffani Shaffer answers students' questions at Reading Day.

Northwest Elementary School had 20 people read to each of the kindergarten to third grade classes Friday. Readers included Butler Township police officers, a library employee, and a member of the Butler County Symphony Association, according to Julie Stock, secretary at Northwest.

This event kicked off a literacy week at the school, which will include Dr. Seuss' birthday on Wednesday, which is Read Across America Day.

Stock said the school hopes to log 40,000 minutes of reading during the week, a goal it has previously met.
