Robert J. Martin

Robert J. Martin, 91, of Butler passed away Monday at the Chicora Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Aspinwall, Pa., to the late David Martin and Vaughn (McCaskey) Martin.

Mr. Martin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Theater, where he was in the Battle of Northern France and the Battle of the Rhineland.

He worked as a project superintendent at the Mellon Stuart Corp. in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Martin was a member of the F&AM Lodge 799 Plum Creek-Monroeville. He was a former member and elder at the Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a current member of St. John's Reformed Church, serving at both churches as a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Martin was an avid reader.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Myrna W. (Swanson) Martin, who he married March 12, 1948; one daughter, Ruth Barnes and her husband, Thomas L. Sr., of Central City, Pa.; two sons, Paul R. Martin and his wife, Bernadine, of McCandless Township, and Richard K. Martin and his wife, Mary Pat, of Mars; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vaughn Simpson and Elizabeth Janes.

MARTIN — Friends of Robert J. Martin, who died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jarrod Crawford of St. John's Reformed Church officiating.
