Senior Master Sgt. Edward W. “Ed” Baughman

Senior Master Sgt. Edward W. “Ed” Baughman, USAF, retired, 88, of Butler passed away Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

He was born May 24, 1927, in Butler to the late Waldo Emerson Baughman and Florene (Weitzel) Baughman.

Mr. Baughman served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and he then retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant in June 1973, after serving in Korea, Japan, Germany, England, Pakistan and the United States. He then worked at Spangs until his retirement in 1983.

Ed was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the VFW Post 249 and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He enjoyed restoring antique clocks, genealogy, history, fishing and gardening.

Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne Baughman, who he married Aug. 4, 1947; three sons, Tim Baughman and his wife, Donna, of Butler, Tom Baughman and his wife, Sue, of Chicora and Todd Baughman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Warner Robins, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Baughman of East Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in by death six sisters and one brother.

BAUGHMAN — Friends of Edward W. “Ed” Baughman, who died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joel A. Benson, pastor, officiating. Private burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.Officers and members of the American Legion posts 117 Butler and 778 Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 Butler will conduct full military honors at the church.Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, PA 16001 or woundedwarriorproject.org.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
