Saxonburg seeking applicants for mayor

SAXONBURG — The borough is seeking a mayor to replace the late Pam Bauman.

Bauman, who was elected mayor in 2013, died Thursday of cancer at age 67.

Residents interested in becoming mayor need to send a letter of intent to the borough. Borough council will appoint the mayor.

Borough secretary Linda Kovacik said applicants must be at least 18 years old and residents of the borough who have lived there for at least one year.

The letter can be dropped off at the borough office, mailed to the borough — attention to the borough secretary — at 420 W. Main St., Saxonburg, PA 16056 or e-mailed to lkovacik@saxonburgpa.com.

Kovacik said council is expected to select a mayor at its 7 p.m. March 2 meeting. State law says the borough has 30 days from the date of death to appoint a new mayor.

Whoever is selected would serve the rest of Bauman’s term, which ends in December 2017. Kovacik said the new mayor would have to run for re-election to serve beyond that date.

The mayor is not paid.

People with questions should call Kovacik at 724-352-1400, Ext. 221.
