Police: Infant alone in car 20 minutes
SLIPPERY ROCK — A young mother is accused of leaving her infant child alone for up to 20 minutes inside of a running and unlocked car at the Giant Eagle parking lot earlier this month.
State police Wednesday charged Hannah L. Wright, 22, of Brady Township with misdemeanor counts of child endangerment and reckless endangerment, and summary charges of disorderly conduct and leaving an unattended child in a vehicle.
Police were called about 4:45 p.m. Feb. 2 to the Slippery Rock Plaza Giant Eagle after someone noticed the infant in a 2003 BMW sedan. The car’s engine was on and the doors were not locked, according to court documents.
The witness said he saw the running car when she pulled into the parking lot and went into the grocery store. At that time, she did not see anyone in the vehicle.
She was in the store for between 15 and 20 minutes, and when she came out and passed the car, she spotted the infant inside. The child was in a “baby carrier” in the car, a police report said.
By the time police got there, Wright apparently had driven home. A trooper later contacted her there, documents said, and she admitted leaving her child in the car while she was in Giant Eagle.
