Mary L. “Mickey” Bellis

Mary L. “Mickey” Bellis, 85, of Butler passed away peacefully Friday at her home surrounded by her family.

Born Oct. 19, 1930, in Fenelton, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. McDonald and Lena (Weiland) McDonald.

She was raised on a farm, attended Saint Wendelin School and graduated from Butler High School in 1948.

She was a homemaker but worked at Grants and Magnetics in her younger years and at Fashion Bug once her children were grown.

Mickey was a faithful member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, a member of St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers and a volunteer at the Community Dinners.  

She was a member of the East Butler Fire Hall, the Elks, the American Legion, Happy Hunters, the Highland Women's Golf League and the B&W Women's Bowling League. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Buffalo Bills.

Mickey enjoyed and celebrated life with friends and family in Butler and at her river camp in East Brady. Her favorite way to celebrate was with a Miller Lite and a shot of Crown Royal.

Mickey is survived by her husband, William Bellis Sr., who she married Oct. 1, 1955; her four children, Richard Bellis of Butler, William (Marie) Bellis of Butler, Susan (Jay) Gillespie of Madison, Wis., and Kate Bellis (Ken Connor) of Butler; five grandchildren, Ryan (Caitlin) Gillespie of Fond du Lac, Wis., Michael Gillespie of Madison, Wis., and Jacob, Daniel and Nathan Bellis of Butler; one sister, Sally (William) Gahagan of Butler; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Cletus) Birckbichler of Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by her brothers, Elmer and Howard McDonald; and her sisters, Bunny Parker and Dede Bellis.

BELLIS — Friends of Mary L. (Mickey) Bellis, who died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.St. Paul's Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church to recite the rosary.Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N.
