Cranberry set to gain 350 jobs

Logistics firm to make move

CRANBERRY TWP — A Blawnox-based logistics company will bring about 350 jobs to the township.

By September, Genco, a subsidiary of FedEx, will move its headquarters to a 100,000 square-foot office space at 700 Cranberry Woods Drive in the Cranberry Woods office park.

The company will not be immediately hiring, but the new building leaves room for growth, communications manager Wendi Nolan said.

Dick Hadley, chairman of the township supervisors, said Monday, “I think it’s a great spot for Genco to go into. I think it will thrive and do very well there. We welcome them to the community.”

Genco has had its offices in Papercraft Park in Allegheny County since 1994. It has seen continued growth and needed to find a larger location.

“We have simply outgrown the space,” said Andy Smith, senior vice president and chief operating officer, in a news release.

The Cranberry Woods building was previously occupied by Verizon, which closed its call center there in May 2014 when it transferred or laid off 600 customer service employees.

Genco was founded in 1898 and operates more than 38 million square-feet of warehouse space in North America, according to its website. It was acquired by FedEx last year.

It provides services for businesses such as processing returned items, warehousing and distribution, contract packaging and product refurbishment and liquidation.

The Cranberry Woods building is part of a four-building complex that has been owned by McKnight Realty Partners of Pittsburgh since 2009.

Township manager Jerry Andree said Genco will add to the vibrancy in Cranberry Woods, which is home to dozens of other companies.

“The arrival of another high quality employer to Cranberry Township validates the importance of visioning and implementing that vision,” he said.
