Smoky furnace spurs call for firefighters at grocery
CENTER TWP — Firefighters from Unionville Volunteer Fire Department disconnected a furnace at the Giant Eagle at Clearview Mall about 1:30 p.m. Sunday after the unit started to send smoke into the store.
At the time of the incident, no additional shoppers were allowed into the store, said Unionville VFD Chief Nathan Wulff. However, the store remained open on Sunday since there was no immediate threat, according to manager Walt Meyer.
The only damage will reportedly be the cost of fixing or replacing the furnace. Mercer Road Volunteer Fire Department, Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Township Fire District 3 assisted.
