Baseball

It was a tough opening weekend for the Slippery Rock University baseball team.

The Rock dropped three of four, including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Wingate University Sunday afternoon.

SRU committed eight errors and uncorked 10 wild pitches in a 13-4, 10-2 twinbill loss to Wingate in Wingate, N.C., Sunday.

On Saturday, The Rock opened up the season with a doubleheader split against Belmont Abbey College in Belmot, N.C.

The Rock dropped the first game 7-6 before rallying for a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Grove City High graduate Jon Anderson was dominant in picking up the only Rock win over the weekend. Anderson gave up just one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out six over six innings for the win.

Anderson was perfect through 4 2/3 innings before a single broke up his no-hit bid.
