Investigations company expands with GC firm

Gov't solutions company bought last month

GROVE CITY — A Virginia-based company that provides security and background investigations for the intelligence community and the federal government expects big things from a Grove City-based data analytics firm it bought in January.

Omniplex World Services last month acquired the government solutions business from Social Intelligence in a deal that included proprietary technology and algorithms used to do background checks on people seeking a government security clearance.

The company’s new division, which still is based in Grove City, employs about 15 people, said Michael Santelli, Omniplex’s president.

A new contract with the Department of Defense, for which Omniplex is awaiting authorization, is expected to swell the office’s work force by at least 10 to 15 people. And another potential government contract that’s still in the works could result in even more hires, Santelli said.

He said Omniplex, which has an office in Cranberry Township, views the acquisition — which will allow it to include social media and publicly available electronic information in the background investigations it performs for the government — as a growth opportunity.

“We didn’t buy the business for the existing work,” Santelli said. “We bought the business for what it can become.”

As part of the deal, Steve Lewis, Social Intelligence’s former operations manager, also joined Omniplex as director of Social Intelligence Government Solutions, which is the name of the Grove City-based division.
