Paul Richard “Bud” Pack

Paul Richard “Bud” Pack

Paul Richard “Bud” Pack, 76, of Hickory Township passed away the morning of Dec. 30 at West Penn Hospital.

He was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Warren, Ohio.

Paul is survived by his longtime partner, Debbie Pastoria of New Castle; his daughters, Kelli Rowady and her husband, John Rowady, of Munster, Ind., and Cami Bond and her husband, Stacy, of Frankfort, Ill.; and his grandchildren, Alexandra Rowady, Jacqueline Rowady, Madeline Bond and Mia Bond; and his siblings, Ella Nicastro, Manny Black and Sheila Fowler.

He was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, who raised him, Alex and Aretta Black; and his sister, Kathleen Lander.

Paul was a self-made success in business, as a multisport athlete, as a parent and in the community.

He attended Leavittsburg High School in Ohio, where he became an accomplished athlete in basketball, baseball, track and football. His athletic talent propelled him to the minor league football team of the Cleveland Browns in the 1960s.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in education from Ohio Northern University.

He had a prosperous career at Heckett Engineering in Butler. He began his career on the shop floor and retired as a key executive in his early 60s as its vice president of operations.

After Paul retired, he followed his passion to breed American Quarter Horses on his farm in New Castle. He became a member of the AQHA, where he showed his horses at state fairs throughout the country.

Paul also became a co-owner of Peter B's Bar and Grill in Sarver with his partner, Debbie Pastoria. He was a favorite of its many great patrons.

Paul was a private man, meticulous, a mentor and held a commanding presence in a room. He loved to help underprivileged people to be kind to people, to teach that hard work pays off. That was his legacy.

His ultimate life's pursuit was complete with the arrival of his grandchildren, where he found the deepest sense of family as they spent summers together on the farm.
