Classes canceled at Pa. college as 185 sickened
COLLEGEVILLE — Classes and weekend activities are canceled at Ursinus College in eastern Pennsylvania as the school deals with a mystery illness that has sickened over 180 students.
A university spokesman says at least 185 students have reported symptoms of a stomach infection. Today’s classes have been canceled “out of an abundance of caution” but will resume Monday.
The school closed its cafeterias and snack bar after students began complaining of vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain Tuesday.
One dining hall was cleared to reopen for dinner Thursday night.
The school is working with Montgomery County health authorities to try to determine whether the ailment is foodborne or transmitted from person to person.
