Tractor-trailer driver says brakes failed
EAST BRADY, Clarion County — Police said charges are pending in a crash where a tractor-trailer truck went into a yard Wednesday night.
Driver Mensa Sarpong, 48, of Wake Forest, N.C., went off the road at about 6:30 p.m. at 608 Kellys Way.
The truck was found about 30 to 40 yards off the road on a person’s private property near the Allegheny River. The cab was on its side with the trailer partially attached. It caused damage to a sidewalk, lawn and fence.
Sarpong reported that he experienced brake failure while traveling south on the road, according to a police report. Police said the road was dry and no skid marks were found.
The truck, from Ultimate Transportation of Columbus, Ohio, was carrying about 30,000 pounds of empty baby food jars. The truck was left overnight before being towed Thursday.
The state Public Utility Commission is expected to inspect the vehicle Monday.
