Man's car was missing tire

Police arrest him for suspicion of DUI

CENTER TWP — A 21-year-old man was arrested for suspected drunken driving after police pulled him over in a car that was missing an important piece of equipment — one of its tires.

Police shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday noticed the three-wheeled car limping along Shanahan Road near Sunset Drive in Center Township.

The car, police said, was short one tire — the one on the front driver’s side.

Investigators identified the driver as Derryn Selfridge, who was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a police report.

The investigation later determined that Selfridge’s vehicle had been involved in an earlier accident in Brady Township, where it struck a road sign at Routes 173 and 8.

The suspect did not stop after the crash, police said, and he continued on in the damaged vehicle before the left front tire came off on Mahood Road near the Unionville fire hall.

But that didn’t stop Selfridge either.

He continued driving the gimpy vehicle in three-wheel motion for another three miles or so, until police stopped him.

Police said charges, including DUI, are pending.
