CRANBERRY TWP — #1 Cochran plans to build a new collision center in the township.

The township supervisors Thursday night held a public hearing on the proposal, which is planned for 2.64 acres on Park Road, adjacent to the Cranberry Township Community Park.

The company hopes to renovate an existing building into a 24,490 square-foot automobile repair facility.

The building is vacant, but used to house a copper and brass sales business, said Ron Henshaw, township director of planning and development services.

In addition to an employee and customer parking lot, the center would include an outdoor storage area for vehicles that would be surrounded by a wooden fence.

Per the township’s request, the company was also asked to include extra landscaping in its plans to create a barrier between the business and the park, Henshaw said.

The work done in the collision center would include painting of vehicles, though that does not require any special permitting, Henshaw said.

#1 Cochran operates 21 dealerships and five collision centers in Western Pennsylvania.

The supervisors will consider approval of the conditional use permit at their meeting Thursday.
