Body found inside motel
CRANBERRY TWP — Police believe a woman killed her elderly mother in Buffalo, N.Y., before killing herself at the Red Roof Inn on Route 19.
Hannah Lilien, 55, was found dead in the motel at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday. She had self-inflicted wounds that didn’t involve a gun, said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino with township police.
Mascellino said the woman was discovered by the motel’s staff after her checkout time had passed.
A weapon was found in the motel room but Mascellino did not say what it was — only that it was not a firearm.
“We did find some items and evidence that indicated the suspect/victim here in Cranberry may have harmed her mother in Buffalo,” Mascellino said.
Buffalo police were asked to check on the woman’s 85-year-old mother, Rose Lilien, and found her dead at the residence about an hour later, authorities said.
The two police departments have concluded that the incidents are related and are being considered a murder-suicide.
Mascellino wouldn’t comment on how the older woman died or on what might have led to the killings.
It is not known for certain why Hannah Lilien was in Cranberry Township, but police said she had at least one family member in the Pittsburgh area.
Police believe Hannah Lilien had been dead for several hours when her body was found. She had checked into the motel Tuesday night.
