Head-on collision in Clay Township

Both drivers were hurt this morning in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Route 308 in Clay Township, about one mile south of West Sunbury.

The injuries were considered minor, authorities said, but one of the drivers was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.

State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Road conditions were snow-covered and slippery, said Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, and could have been a factor in the wreck about 6:30 a.m.

One of the pickups crossed the double-yellow line when it crashed into the other truck. Both vehicles ended in the southbound lane.

The road was closed in both directions immediately after the collision, but eventually one lane was reopened.

Emergency crews at 7:45 a.m. were still awaiting for tow trucks to remove the damaged pickups.
