Cornetti returns for Feb. 6 concert

Butler County native Marianne Cornetti will perform with the Butler County Symphony on Feb. 6.

The title of the upcoming Butler County Symphony Orchestra concert says it all: “Marianne Cornetti Returns.”

Cornetti, a Butler County native and Knoch High School graduate, is recognized internationally as one of the world's leading Verdi mezzo-sopranos.

She will appear with the orchestra Feb. 6.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

She has appeared as Amneris in “Aida,” Azucena in “Il Trovatore,” and Eboli in “Don Carlos” at theaters including the Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Theatre Royale de la Monnaie in Brussels, among others.

Selections for the Feb. 6 concert will include Berlioz' “La Mort de Cléopâtre,” Verdi's “La Forza del Destino Overture” and “Condotta ell'era in ceppi,” Puccini's “Intermezzo from Manon Lescaut” and Wagner's “Tannhäuser Overture.”

Butler symphony music director and conductor Matthew Kraemer will present a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. It will include snippets of the music to be performed during the concert.
