Pittsburgh man, 47, faces child pornography charges
CRANBERRY TWP — A Pittsburgh man is facing child pornography charges after employees of a computer repair business reported seeing illegal images on his laptop.
Jon Shaffer, 47, was charged Thursday with felony child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.
The township police were dispatched on Dec. 5 to Compu Gig on Route 19 after an employee reported seeing suspicious images on a hard drive, according to court documents.
The staff there were working on repairs to a laptop allegedly belonging to Shaffer.
After obtaining a search warrant, Sgt. Matthew Irvin examined the laptop’s hard drive and allegedly observed 73 digital images depicting children under the age of 18 engaged in prohibited sexual acts.
Shaffer later allegedly gave Irvin a written statement in which he admitted to obtaining the images, but said he did not disseminate them.
