Seneca to spend $2M on stadium upgrades

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School District plans to spend nearly $2 million to renovate bleachers and to replace the turf surface on the football field and on the track.

Bob Cook, director of buildings, grounds and security, said the district is in the design and engineering phase for that work at NexTier stadium.

He discussed the projects at the school board meeting Monday night.

The bleacher project will include adding new and expanded handicap-accessible seating and companion seating so friends and family of handicapped people can sit with them during sporting events.

The project will expand the bleacher seating on the home side by 615, Cook said.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,000.

That work is anticipated to cost about $900,000 and will be done this summer.

The district also will replace the turf surface on the football field and the surface on the track. That is expected to cost about $500,000 for the football field and $500,000 for the track.

Only the surface will be replaced. The base and drainage systems will remain the same.

The track, installed 13 years ago, is being resurfaced for the second time, he said.
