Flames destroy home

LANCASTER TWP — Firefighters say a Little Creek Road home and a detached garage were destroyed in an early morning fire today.

Scott Garing, fire chief of Harmony Volunteer Fire Company, said the blaze at 569 Little Creek Road initially was reported as a chimney fire at about 2:30 a.m., but by the time fire crews arrived on scene the story-and-a-half home was “fully involved” and a detached garage had also caught fire.

Garing said fire crews spent about six hours on the scene fighting the blaze, which caused an estimated $350,000 in damage.

The home’s two occupants, Ken and Sherry Kelly, weren’t injured, Garing said, and also managed to save some items from the fire after they woke up smelling smoke.

Garing said the fire’s cause remains unknown, and a state police fire marshal is investigating.
