Suspect in 2 ATM thefts charged again

He's linked to break-ins

A Penn Township man already accused of stealing two automatic teller banking machines now faces additional, similar allegations in Evans City and Forward Township.

Initially, 35-year-old William T. Duncan was accused of taking ATMs from the Rittswood Golf Course in Middlesex Township in late November and from the Cheers Bar in Jefferson Township a month later.

New court records filed against Duncan allege he later broke into and took the currency from an ATM at Baker’s Back Street Bar in Evans City. And he’s accused of damaging multiple gaming machines in John’s Bar in Forward Township to remove about $200 in currency from the machines and bar.

The two new allegations filed Wednesday against Duncan both occurred the morning of Jan. 7.

According to court records filed by state police, Duncan on that day allegedly first broke in a door at John’s Bar on Mars Evans City Road, repositioned the security cameras and then vandalized a dart game, a bowling game and a jukebox. There, he’s accused of doing more than $1,500 worth of damage to get about $200.

According to court records filed by Evans City Seven Fields Regional Police, investigators believe Duncan, who lives in the Port O’ Call Trailer Park, was traveling on a bicycle that morning and a couple hours later burglarized Baker’s Back Street Bar.

Court records allege Duncan would later tell investigators that he entered through a side door, removed money from the cash drawer and then used a reciprocating saw to get into the ATM.

Court records allege he did more than $3,000 worth of damage to the equipment and took off with more than $6,000 cash.

Similarly, in the incident at Cheers Bar, Duncan allegedly broke into the currency area of a dart machine and a cigarette machine, which he emptied. He also removed currency from the cash register before dragging an ATM out of the bar, according to court records.

At the golf course, court records say that Duncan told investigators he took the $3,000 banking machine then disposed of it in the garbage bin of a different business.

Duncan is charged in each of the two new cases with burglary, trespassing, theft, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property and loitering.

He’s awaiting a preliminary hearing in each of those cases before District Judge Wayne Seibel.

The charges filed in the golf course case and the Cheers Bar case already are at county court, where Duncan now may have a trial or plead guilty.

Meantime, Duncan is in the Butler County Prison unable to post $100,000 bail.
