County OKs change orders
The Butler County commissioners Wednesday approved more than $60,000 in change orders to the government center annex construction project.
These items included an additional $30,000 to add a power supply to a door. John Campbell, director of facilities and operations, said issues with the door came up during a code review, and said the door has been opening only with a generator.
Another big item included $14,800 to modify some hallway ceilings and an elevator shaft.
Commissioner Leslie Osche, board chairman, said the project is still under budget.
The $12-million, 57,600-square-foot building, which houses human services, was completed in September.

n The board of elections approved paying $32,700 to Electronic Systems and Software of Nebraska for maintenance and support services for the county’s computer voting machines.
Elections director Shari Brewer said that the voting machines are 10 years old and are starting to have some minor issues. This maintenance will help, she said.
n Approved a resolution to allocate up to $25,000 from fees from the Recorder of Deeds’ office to help fund the Butler County Home Ownership and Housing Counseling program.
Tom Holman, deputy court administrator, said the county used $9,000 for the program last year and $20,000 the year before that, so it is unlikely that the program would go over the $25,000 this year. He said the goal of this program is help people who get into trouble with debt to stay in their homes.
n Appointed Deputy Sheriff Captain Brian Karenbauer as the emergency program director. Sheriff Mike Slupe said this position helps in planning and coordinating fire drills.
