Symphony hosts CornettiThe Butler County Symphony Orchestra will present its next concert, “Marianne Cornetti Returns” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.A Knoch High School graduate, Cornetti is recognized as one of the leading Verdi mezzo-sopranos in the world.Butler Symphony music director and conductor Matthew Kraemer will present a pre-concert lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m.Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Center shows 'America'The art show “Celebrate America” will open Jan. 27 at the Butler Art Center and run through Feb. 26.The show will highlight many of the celebrations in America, using national holidays as a starting point for looking at the year ahead.The show will be judged by two member artists, and cash and ribbons will be awarded.A reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 29. Moraine site of ski workshopMUDDY CREEK TWP — A cross country ski workshop is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Day Use Area on the South Shore of Moraine State Park.Take cross country skis, rent some skis or just come to see how it’s done. Instruction will be geared to the abilities and interests of the people in the class and will cover technique and equipment selection.Meet in the field near the Sunken Garden trailhead before Pleasant Valley Beach. Ground Hog Stomp plannedMUDDY CREEK TWP — A two-hour Ground Hog Stomp hike on a section of the North Country Trail will depart at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 from the bike rental parking lot on the North Shore of Moraine State Park.Weather conditions and the preference of the group will determine the distance. If snow is at least 4 inches deep, some snowshoes will be available to lend out.
