Couple injured, arrested in domestic dispute in city
A man and a woman are in the Butler County Prison on aggravated assault charges following a domestic dispute Friday night on West Jefferson Street.
Joseph Mayo, 53, and Jeanine Byerly, 45, were both placed in prison early Saturday morning on $25,000 bail.
On-call District Judge Dave Kovach said both Mayo and Byerly allegedly assaulted each other with weapons at a home on West Jefferson Street.
Emergency crews at 9:18 p.m. responded to the A Plus Sunoco at 400 W. Jefferson St. on reports that a woman showed up bleeding from her head.
Six minutes later, they went to 312 W. Jefferson St. on a report of a 53-year-old man with a stab wound to his face, according to 911 reports.
City Fire Chief Nick Ban said both the man and the woman were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Mayo was placed in prison at 4:45 a.m. while Byerly was taken there at 5:40 a.m.
Both are charged with aggravated assault and simple assault.
City police could not be reached Saturday morning about the incident.
