Truck carrying glass jars crashes on I-80 this morning

ALLEGHENY TWP — A tractor-trailer hauling 40,000 pounds of glass containers and jars overturned this morning on Interstate 80 in northern Butler County.

The crash happened about 5:50 a.m. but the highway remained open after the eastbound rig went off the road, authorities said.

The driver, Kevin Palmer, no age given, of Flint, Mich., was taken to Clarion Hospital with unknown injuries.

State police in Clarion are investigating but a report was not available this morning. Investigators did not immediately know what caused Palmer to lose control of his tractor-trailer.

The road was dry, according to the Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department, which assisted at the scene.

Barry Louise, assistant fire chief, said eastbound traffic would likely be restricted to one lane later in the day to allow for a tow truck to remove the overturned rig.
