Knoch swimmers pick up 2 victories

Mars' Owen Vasbinder scores the second of his three goals Mionday night as Mars defeated Hampton, 4-1, in hockey action action at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale.
Mars girls still perfect in section

Lindsey Fanton won two individual events (butterfly, backstroke) and helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to victories as Knoch's girls swimming and diving team picked up wins over Highlands (70-28) and Springdale (77-23) Monday evening at Butler High School.

In the boys' meet, Ben Lowery won the diving event in Knoch's 69-32 win over Springdale and 59-41 triumph against Highlands.

Both Knoch teams improved to 4-1.

Mars outscored host Deer Lakes 18-3 in the fourth quarter to pull away in a 49-29 Section 1-AAA victory.

Nicole McCloud (18 points), Tai Johnson (15) and Lauren Wasylson (13) each reached double digits in points for the Planets (8-4, 4-0).

Hockey

Owen Vasbinder's hat trick lifted Mars to a 4-1 win over Hampton at the Baierl Ice Complex.

Vasbinder staked the Planets (11-3) to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first period.

He and teammate Keaton Hanna both scored in the second period.

Ian Newman, Tyler Grau and Beau Heakins each contributed an assist to the victory while Tyler Spreng stopped 16 of 17 Talbot shots in net.
