Rock drops 2 on road

Huskies sweep hoop twinbill

BLOOMSBURG — A late Slippery Rock rally fell short Sunday as Bloomsburg hung on for a 70-67 college basketball victory.

SRU (8-6, 3-5) trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before whittling the deficit to 65-63 with 1:36 remaining. The Rock had chances to tie, but missed a lay-up and turned the ball over.

Bloomsburg (7-5, 5-3) hit some late free throws to seal the win.

Chaquille Pratt paced The Rock with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Christian Mortellite paced Bloomsburg with 19 points, sinking 10 of 11 free throws.

Naquil Jones added 11 points for Slippery Rock. Malcolm Richardson and Cornelius Brown — SRU's top two scorers this season — played less than 17 minutes each due to fiul trouble.

Slippery Rock lost the game despite holding a rebounding advantage of 55-34. The Rock grabbed 22 offensive rebounds to the Huskies' nine.

Bloomsburg 81, SRU (women) 65 — The Rock turned the ball over 24 times — twice its season average) in taking the road loss.

Audrey Stapleton led SRU (7-6, 4-4) with a season-high 18 points. Lexi Carpenter contributed 16 points, five rebounds and five assists while Mallory Heinle had 15 points and seven rebounds. Erica Aiello had five assists.

Alyssa Mack paced Bloomsburg (8-4, 5-3) with 20 points. Adreana Sadowski netted 18 wile Mia Hopkins tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocked shots and three steals.

Both Rock teams close out PSAC crossover play Wednesday night at Morrow Field House, hosting East Stroudsburg.
