MIDDLESEX TWP — The owner of a wrought iron fabrication business has received an award from the federal Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Emil Schultz IV, owner of Schultz Ornamental Iron, on Monday received the Seven Seals Award from ESGR — which is a U.S. Department of Defense office that aids cooperation between members of the National Guard and Reserve units and their employers.

The award is given “in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR.”

Schultz was given the award for volunteering his time and materials to two armed forces members, Adam and Mariah Joyce of Beaver County.

With her husband Adam about to be deployed, Mariah Joyce talked to the business about being open on a day it normally was closed and to demonstrate iron work.

Schultz opened the shop for a day in October and also surprised the couple with a handmade coffee table.

That prompted the Joyces to nominate Schultz.

Schultz said the coffee table was a thank you for the couple’s service.

“This was the best day we’ve ever had, and we are so glad she contacted us because not only did they have fun, but we also got to make new friends with an amazing couple,” Schultz said in a statement.
