Judy Moser, retiring Butler County register of wills/clerk of orphans’ court, got a send off today with a reception at the government center.

Moser of Winfield Township will retire at the end of the year. She has held her position since 1992.

Moser was appointed deputy register of wills in 1983, and was elected to the newly created position of register of wills/clerk of orphans’ court eight years later.

The position makes rulings on the probate of wills, dealing with numerous types of filings, ranging from requests for an original will to the determination of who administers a will.

In 2014, there were nearly 1,100 register of wills cases. For the same period, orphans’ court processed more than 300 cases.

Sarah Edwards of Butler will replace her.
