SRU will award degrees to more than 500 grads

SLIPPERY ROCK — More than 500 Slippery Rock University students will graduate at the fall commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morrow Field House.

SRU will award 453 undergraduate degrees and 108 master’s degrees, according to a release from the university.

Tickets are required for admission.

Wilma Cavill, assistant professor of health and safety management and the longest serving faculty member in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, will serve as grand marshal opening and closing the ceremony.

SRU President Cheryl Norton will open the ceremony with welcoming remarks, and Mary Jo White, chairman of the SRU trustees, also will speak.

At the ceremony, Lt. Col. John Donlin, professor of military science and head of SRU’s Army ROTC program, will confer the oath of office to two graduating ROTC cadets, inducting them into the Army as second lieutenants.

Receiving commissions will be Matthew Cullen, a criminology and criminal justice major from Hadley, and Garrett Mille, a secondary education: social studies and history major, from Leechburg.

The Army ROTC unit will present the colors to open the ceremony.

The SRU Student Brass Quintet will provide music.

The SRU Quartet will sing the “Star-Spangled Banner,” while the SRU Men’s Quartet will perform the “SRU Alma Mater.”
