SR passes budget, plans to hire staff
SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough council Tuesday voted to approve the 2016 budget that has no property tax increase, but it does expand its staff.
The budget totals $1.33 million.
Borough property owners will again pay a 18.71-mill real estate tax, a 2-mill street lighting tax and a 1.165-mill fire tax. One mill brings in about $19,147 in tax revenue.
Slippery Rock plans to hire a new full-time maintenance person to work on borough property which includes the borough building on East Water Street and its parks. It already has one full-time street employee.
The new position will pay $18 per hour.
The borough also included $11,000 under its administrative budget for a borough manager, though officials do not expect to hire a manager in 2016.
Council President Regina Greenwald said that money hopefully will be for a manager in the future.
Officials would like to hire a part-time borough manager, estimated to cost $40,000 a year, Greenwald said.
They are working to find another municipality or agency that it could share a manager with instead of trying to find a qualified person who only would work part-time, Greenwald said.
