New council member resigns, to be replaced
SLIPPERY ROCK — A man elected to a four-year term on borough council has declined the position, which leaves a vacancy.
Brad Kovaleski cannot accept the position because he plans to move out of the area.
Borough administrator Lucinda Lipko said Tuesday the borough received an official resignation from Kovaleski for his term that was to start Jan. 1.
The terms of four of the seven council members expire at the end of the month.
In an uncontested election, Ron Steele was re-elected and Kovaleski, Royce Lorentz and Tom McPherson also won seats.
Council members Dave Miller, Itzi Meztli and Christy Tichy all chose not to seek re-election and attended their final council meeting Tuesday.
The new council now will have to appoint a person to a two-year term to fill the vacancy. Then in 2017, there will be an election for a two-year position.
Borough council is seeking any borough residents interested in filling the vacant position. Anyone interested can send a letter of interest and a resume to Lipko at the borough office, 306 E. Water St.
