Twp. OKs contract with utility workersCRANBERRY TWP — The township supervisors have ratified a contract with Utility Workers of America, AFL-CIO, Local 540.There are 21 employees covered by the contract, according to township manager Jerry Andree. They work in the sewer and water division of Public Works, which includes the Brush Creek Water Pollution Control facility.The agreement, which runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2018, includes an annual wage increase of 2.75 percent.It also includes health insurance with higher deductibles.An individual will have to pay $1,500 before the insurance will pay the expense. The family plan includes a $3,000 deductible.Under the former plan, an individual paid a deductible of $250 and a family paid $500.The supervisors on Thursday approved the contract.

Sewage project contracts approvedCRANBERRY TWP — The township supervisors have approved two contracts for the Brush Creek Water Pollution Control Facility with GHD and AECOM Technical Services.They approved a $1.1 million contract for design services with the engineering firm GHD.They also approved a contract of $1.4 million with AECOM Technical Services for project construction management and inspection services.AECOM Technical Services will oversee the work of the four contractors to be hired early next year to build the plant.The township expects to open those four construction bids in February and have construction begin in June. The work is expected to be finished in mid-2019.The township’s cost for the project will be about $41 million. Marshall Township will contribute about $7 million to the project since it uses the same sewage plant.The total cost will be about $48 million.The supervisors approved the two contracts Thursday.
